Great Cookie Book
2008-04-30 I really liked this book. I do agree with others, that the recipes are online, but its nice not to have to print them and have them all together. I made the cookies on the cover and got rave reviews. I love the pictures and the recipes are really well written. A great book for a baker!
An awesome book for every baker!
2008-04-27 I love to cook and bake, but I am very particular about the cookbooks I buy. I want a book that will be useful, with delicious recipes, and not just pretty to look at. This book exceeded my expectations! I really like the table of contents - it is divided into categories of cookies, plus there is a picture of each cookie. This is very helpful when you are trying to zero in on a specific texture, flavor, or look. I know this book will end up being one of my favorites, although Martha would be appalled if she knew there were typographical errors in it!
Martha's cookies and my wedding!
2008-04-25 I bought this book as I was looking for some interesting cookies to make and share for our wedding. This book didn't dissapoint, and of the 5-6 recipies I've made, all have turned out well and been tasty. Good directions, and I especially like that there are pictures of the "finished product" so that you know what it's supposed to look like.
All in all, a solid book for someone who loves cookies.
Recipe gems
2008-04-24 The pictures alone are enough to make you buy the book, but--the recipes are absolute gems; the best of the best. I think I'll go make some right now.
Excellent recipes
2008-04-23 I'm often intimidated the long, difficult recipes that appear in Martha's magazine -- and there ARE a few of those in this book -- but most of these recipes can be made with a reasonable amount of effort. The focus is on excellent ingredients, thoughtful flavor combinations, and precise instructions. I've made three of the recipes so far and found them to be simply brilliant! For example, in the Fruit and Nut Cookies, Martha calls for coarse salt instead of ordinary table salt. It sounded crazy to me to put coarse salt into cookies, but I gave Martha the benefit of the doubt and used fleur de sel. WOW. The little unexpected hits of salt with those lush chunks of dried apricot took those cookies to a new level of Delicious. Another recipe I made was a chocolate shortbread thumbprint cookie filled with sweetened cream cheese and minced fresh strawberries. Those were positively mind-blowing and disappeared almost immediately. This book is well worth its price.
