It's a WINNER!
2008-05-01 I love this book! I've order copies for each of my siblings and two more for me to give to my workout pals! Love it!!
Useful book for busy and low-income individuals (such as graduate students)
2008-04-30 This book provides adaquate information on what to eat if you "must" eat outside or have quick snacks etc. If you are seeking information whether cabbage is healthier than swiss chard, then you may consider reading "The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth" by Jonny Bowden.
I find this book very useful as a graduate student because I must consume a lot of cheap junk as food:
1) When I have time to cook, I cook very healthy dishes. However, I don't always have much time to spend on cooking gourmet dinners while there are tons of articles on my desk to be read, exams to grade, experiments to run, deadlines to be met and departmental requirements to be satisfied. So, I eat fast food and healthier is better. This book helped me to figure out what to avoid and what is a better alternative.
2) I have a low income and I am sorry but I don't have enough money to spend in fancy all-organic, healthy restaurants. So I have to eat cheap food! (Even Chili's is expensive for me). For example I was relieved to see in this book that foods in Chick-fil-A are not as bad since I already have been eating their sandwiches more than comparable chicken sandwiches of other chains.
3) For some seminars etc. my department orders 2-3 kinds of fast food for us. So, I need to choose which one is healthier!
4) I need to attend some annual scientific meetings that last up to a week and since I can't cook anything in the hotel room shared by many fellow students, I just eat outside whatever is available.
5) Of course when I cook/bake I know exactly how much oil/sugar/salt is in my food (if any). But I don't know how much of which they put in restaurants. At least this book gives me a clue of what is in my food.
If anything I described above applies to you, this book will help you to make better decisions when it comes to food.
Awesome book!
2008-04-30 I keep this book in my purse, and believe me, I bust it out at the fast food restaurants. Very insightful...worth every penny.
Useful restaurant guide
2008-04-29 Since you can find the calorie counts of most major fast food chains on their website, I found this book to be most helpful for sit down restaurants which never list calories. Also includes great tips for what to buy at the supermarket.
For him Yes, for others, No
2008-04-29 i really liked the way this book presented, it's full of pictures of various menues, but the problem comes when you don't eat what he listed....
like McDonald's, it has many burgers, but he has choosen between only two... what about others?
the concept behind this book is awesome for fat people who used to eat fast food.
but when you wheight 300+ lb.... 10lb will do nothing...
